Department of Fisheries Gyalshing organises One day Awareness Programme on "Fisheries Educational Scope & Various Fisheries Schemes" at PMShri SSS Dentam
Gyalshing, August 6: Today the Department of Fisheries, Gyalshing District organised a one day awareness programme on "Fisheries Educational Scope & Various Fisheries Schemes" at PM Shri Senior Secondary School Dentam, Gyalshing District under the direction of Secretary (Fisheries Department).
The programme was graced by the presence of Vice Principal PMShri Senior Secondary School Dentam, Assistant Director Fisheries, Block Officer Fisheries, faculty of the institute, Fisheries staff and students of class Xl and Xll.
Vice Principal of school Mr Ramesh Gurung in his address extended profound gratitude towards the department efforts for organising such an insightful event. He also expressed that he was very pleased to see his two ex- students as officers representing the Department and urged all the students to seek inspirations from them.
Assistant Director Fisheries Mr Lahang Limboo gave a presentation on the "Fisheries Department it's Mandate & Role". He highlighted the different ways of legal and illegal fishing activities and also the process to avail licence for legal fishing. He also briefed about various schemes under Fisheries Department.
Block Officer Mr Kussang Sherpa gave a presentation on the "Fisheries Education Scope". He provided detailed information regarding benefits of taking Fisheries Science as a subject for higher studies and various opportunities related to the subject.
Fisheries Guard Ms Greshma Rai presented on the topic Aquaculture. She explained various types of Aquaculture practices specially in relation to that of Sikkim and also explained regarding sustainable aquaculture practices.
Assistant Fisheries Guard Mr Sonam Paljor Sherpa gave a presentation on "Indigenous Fish Species of Sikkim". He explained that the fish species are depleting because of many factors and encouraged all to contribute for conservation of same. He also urged all to practice only legal method of fishing.
The programme concluded with quiz questions for the students and it was great to see them participate with great enthusiasm.
Lastly, the programme concluded with a vote of thanks by AD Fisheries.
