Education Department and Google Team Up to Transform Higher Education Through

AI

GANGTOK, October 6, 2026: In a major move toward digital transformation, the

Education Department, Government of Sikkim, has partnered with tech giant Google to elevate higher education across the state with cutting-edge artificial intelligence.

At the heart of this partnership is the rollout of the Google AI Educator Series—a specialized, hands-on initiative designed to equip higher education faculty with Google’s latest AI tools.

The program will be implemented in 15 Higher and Technical Government Colleges as well as Khangchendzonga State University. This will empower faculty to seamlessly integrate AI into their classrooms, refine teaching practices, and create dynamic, future-ready learning

experiences for students.

The collaboration is expected to play an important role in making educators more future-ready and strengthening the digital capabilities of the higher education sector in Sikkim.

Shri Raju Basnet, Hon’ble Minister, Education Department, Government of Sikkim, welcomed the collaboration and highlighted the importance of leveraging emerging technologies to further strengthen the education ecosystem in the State.

Shri Sandeep Tambe, Principal Secretary; Shri Ujjwal Rai, Special Secretary; Smt. Tshering Yangchen Bhutia, Joint Director, along with representatives from Google were present during the meeting.

The programme concluded with the signing and exchange of the Statement of Intent (SOI) between the Education Department (Higher Education), Government of Sikkim, and Google, marking a significant step towards strengthening collaboration in the area of digital and AI- enabled education in the State
