UMEED 2026: Two-Day Leadership and Career Advancement Conclave concluded at TRI, Assam Lingzey Pakyong

The PM Shri Section, Education Department, Government of Sikkim, successfully concluded UMEED 2026: a two days Leadership cum Career Advancement Conclave at the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Assam Lingzey, Pakyong on the 7th and 8th of February 2026. UMEED 2026 was conceptualized keeping in mind the academic, behavioural, and career-related transitions faced by Class XII students as they move from school to college. The conclave aimed to strengthen leadership capabilities among young learners while providing clarity on career advancement opportunities available after school education.

UMEED 2026 brought together Class XII students from various PM Shri Schools across Sikkim, providing a focused and inclusive platform for young learners standing at a crucial transition point in their academic journey. The first day of the conclave was graced by the Chief Guest, Shri Raju Basnet, Honourable Minister for Education, Sports & Youth Affairs, Law and Parliamentary Affairs. The programme was also attended by Shri Bishal Pokhrel, APS to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Pakyong District and various dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest Shri Raju Basnet shared insights from his own experiences and emphasized the Government’s commitment towards student welfare and education. He highlighted the vision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, stating that no student in the state should be compelled to discontinue education due to financial constraints. He assured the students that the Government of Sikkim stands fully committed to supporting students pursuing higher education, whether in government or private institutions, within the country or abroad, and encouraged them to pursue their aspirations with confidence and determination.

The second day saw the presence of Principal Secretary, Education Department, Dr. Sandeep Tambe, IFS who encouraged the students to focus and dedicate themselves to their passion. He stressed upon them the importance of such sessions and wished the students best for the year ahead.

The two days conclave had the presence of thought leaders including Dr. Bibeth Sharma, Head of the Department, Management, SMIT, Smt. Pramila Sharma, an experienced career counsellor serving under CM DISHA, Mr. Madhav Varma, Associate Professor of Business at Royal Thimphu College, Bhutan and Mr. Dewaker Basnet, Chief Learning Officer, 24hours Inspired. The day also had the presence of Joint Director, Planning, Mrs. Lamkila Bhutia and Mr. Deoraj Bagdas, AD, PM Shri Schools, Education Department, Government of Sikkim along with other invited dignitaries, teachers from 26 schools and school students from PM Shri schools across Sikkim.
