INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY CELEBRATION 2026
Pakyong, March 8: To mark the International Women's Day on 8th March the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs Pakyong in collaboration with MY BHARAT organized ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action) League at St Xavier's Ground.
The program was graced Ms Nimchiki Sherpa Hon'ble Chairperson commerce & Industries department as Chief Guest. In her address she spoke about the achievements of women in different fields and encouraged the participants to move forward with confidence to accomplish their goals. She also emphasized the role of Sports in empowering women by fostering confidence, leadership and resilience by overcoming traditional gender barriers.
Joint Director Sports & Youth Affairs Mr Nim D Bhutia apprised the athletes about the significance of Day and Khelo India AMITA League which aims to encourage greater women's participation in Sports.
In lines with Khelo India AMITA league Athletic events of 100M, 200M, and 400M was conducted for Under 14 and U-17 Girls, followed by Tug of War and Passing of Ball. Top three position of each event were presented with prizes by the Chief Guest. The event witness participation of ninety-two girl's students from District KIC (Athletic) and nearby schools.
Female coaches Ms Zarina Rana (Table Tennis), Ms Dhan Kri Adhikari (Football), Ms Chandra Kala Sharma (Athletics) and Ms Sangita Subba (PTI) were felicitated on the occasion.
The program also had presence of Mr Robert Lepcha Assistant Director Sports & Youth Affairs Pakyong who oversaw the meet, PETs, and staffs of the department.
