The 2nd Round of National Deworming Day (NDD) 2025 was successfully observed across all schools and ICDS centres of Mangan District with the objective of eradicating intestinal worm infections among children and adolescents aged 1–19 years. The initiative aimed to improve the overall health, nutrition, and academic performance of children by ensuring wide coverage and active community participation.
District-Level Launching Ceremony.
The district-level launch of the 2nd Round of NDD 2025 was conducted by the District Hospital Mangan (DHM) on 12th August 2025 at the Mangan Public Ground. The venue was strategically chosen as all schools participating in the upcoming Independence Day march-past were assembled there for practice, ensuring maximum outreach. The event was organized in collaboration with the Mangan Police Department, whose support facilitated coordination, discipline, and smooth execution of the programme.
Dignitaries and Resource Persons Present
The launching event was graced by the presence of:
• Dr. Zomba Tshering Lachungpa, District RCH Officer (DRCHO), Mangan – who delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of deworming in child health and development.
• ASP Mr mani kumar tamang- who led the charge march past for student
• Mrs. Peden Bhutia, District Public Health Nursing Officer (DPHNO) – who spoke on the health impacts of worm infestations and the role of preventive measures.
• Mr. Rinchen Namgyal Bhutia, District Health Educator – who conducted an awareness session on hygiene practices to prevent reinfection.
• Mr. Tenzing Bhutia, Health Educator – who assisted in the organization and awareness activities.
Also present were ASHA workers, teachers from the participating schools, and other health staff.
Participation and Deworming Activity
Around 243 students from various schools present at the ground were administered Albendazole tablets under direct supervision of the health team and school teachers. The activity was preceded by health talks emphasizing:
• The need for deworming every six months as per national guidelines.
• How worms affect children’s nutrition, cause anaemia, and impact school attendance and learning ability.
• Safe administration of the tablet and follow-up instructions.
Simultaneous District-Wide Implementation
While the district launch was ongoing at Mangan Public Ground, deworming activities were also conducted at all other schools and ICDS centres across Mangan District. Teachers, Anganwadi workers, and ASHAs played a vital role in ensuring correct dosage and documentation, with priority given to reaching every child in the targeted age group.
Impact and Outcome
The 2nd Round of NDD 2025 in Mangan District achieved widespread coverage and active involvement of education, health, and ICDS sectors. The combined approach of centralized launching with simultaneous field implementation ensured that the campaign’s message and benefits reached every corner of the district. The collaboration with the Mangan Police Department also demonstrated effective inter-departmental coordination for public health initiatives.
The programme concluded with renewed commitment from all stakeholders to sustain the fight against parasitic worm infections through regular deworming, health education, and improved hygiene practices.
