District Collector Inspects Martam Nazitam/Namli/Byeng Phegyong GPU, Reviews Monsoon-Related Infrastructure Issues

As part of the ongoing weekly inspection of Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs), Shri Agawane Rohan Ramesh, IAS, District Collector, Gangtok District, conducted an inspection of Martam Nazitam/Namli/Byeng Phegyong GPU on Saturday to review the condition of public infrastructure and assess issues arising during the ongoing monsoon season.
The inspection team comprised Shri Sonam Wongyal Lepcha, Joint Director, DDMA; Shri Sonam Palden Bhutia, BDO & AE, Martam Block; concern Zilla Panchayat and Panchayat Members; the concerned Revenue Surveyor; and DM staff posted in the GPU.
The team visited Namli ICDS Centre, Lower Namli ICDS Centre, Rabdang ICDS Centre, 32 No. ICDS Centre, Sangkhola Primary School and Sangkhola ICDS Centre, with a focus on assessing the condition of the facilities and identifying infrastructure and safety concerns requiring timely intervention.
During the inspection, roof leakages, damaged plywood ceilings and structural cracks were observed at several ICDS centres. Some centres were also found to be without electricity connections, resulting in increased humidity and discomfort for children and Anganwadi workers, particularly during the monsoon.
The District Collector interacted with local representatives, Panchayat members and other stakeholders to understand the issues being faced at the ground level. He personally inspected the affected facilities and reviewed the infrastructure requirements at each location.
Expressing concern over the condition of facilities serving children and the local community, the District Collector emphasized the need for timely repairs, restoration and appropriate safety measures. He assured the stakeholders of necessary support and coordination from the District Administration and directed that the identified issues be followed up with the concerned authorities for appropriate action.
