District Administration Reviews Preparations for State-Level Tendong Lho Rum Faat 2026

Gangtok, July 31, 2026: In preparation for the forthcoming State-Level Tendong Lho Rum Faat 2026, the District Administration, Gangtok, under the chairmanship of the District Collector, convened a departmental coordination meeting at the Mini Conference Hall, District Administrative Centre (DAC), Gangtok.

The meeting was attended by the Hon'ble Area MLA, Gangtok Constituency-cum-President, TLRF Celebration Committee 2026, Shri Delay Namgyal; Hon'ble Advisor to the Hon'ble Chief Minister, Shri Kunga Nima Lepcha; Chairman, Primitive Tribe Board, Shri Chewang Norbu Lepcha; Additional Political Secretary to the Hon'ble Chief Minister, Shri Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha; President, RMRK, Shri O.T. Lepcha; Municipal Councillors; officers representing all concerned line departments; and other key stakeholders.

The meeting commenced with a welcome address by the Joint Director, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Gangtok, Shri Sonam Wongyal Lepcha, who emphasized the importance of clearly defining departmental responsibilities, strengthening inter-departmental coordination, and ensuring seamless operational planning for the successful conduct of the state-level celebration.

Festival Schedule and Key Highlights

The executive body of TLRF-2026 reviewed the official programme for the six-day celebration, scheduled from August 3 to August 8, 2026, which will feature the following major events:

1. Tendong Knowledge Series

The programme will be held on August 3, 2026, at the NCRT Hall, Helipad. It will honour individuals for their outstanding contributions across various fields of knowledge while promoting the spirit of giving back to the community.

2. Yongthom (Open Market)

The Yongthom (Open Market) will be organised at Ridge Park (White Hall) from August 4 to August 7, 2026, providing a platform for local entrepreneurs from both urban and rural areas to showcase and market their products.

A major attraction of the event will be the participation of a record number of Flute and Timbuk (GI-tagged) players, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the Lepcha community. Official evening programmes will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a contingency extension up to 8:30 PM, if required.

3. Grand Finale

The celebrations will culminate on August 8, 2026, at Manan Kendra, where the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Departmental Responsibilities

To ensure the smooth, safe, and successful conduct of the celebrations, the District Collector assigned the following responsibilities to the concerned departments:

• Law & Order and Traffic Management: The Sikkim Police and Traffic Department have been directed to implement comprehensive security arrangements and traffic management plans to ensure the safety of dignitaries, participants, and the general public throughout the festival.

• Fire and Emergency Services: The Fire Department will maintain operational readiness by deploying personnel and specialised firefighting equipment at all key venues to enable an immediate response to any emergency.

• Water Supply and Sanitation: The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has been entrusted with ensuring an adequate supply of safe drinking water for commercial and food stalls, while also facilitating sanitation arrangements across all major event venues.

• Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC): The GMC has been directed to provide dedicated water support for activities at Ridge Park and to ensure cleanliness, waste management, and maintenance of all event locations throughout the celebration period.

• Power Department: The Power Department will coordinate with the TLRF Organising Committee to provide uninterrupted electricity supply and adequate power backup at all three venues throughout the scheduled programmes.

• Entrance Gate and Venue Beautification: The Forest Department has been assigned the responsibility of erecting and beautifying the ceremonial entrance gate at Manan Kendra for the main celebration on August 8, 2026, in coordination with the TLRF Organising Committee.

• Health Services: The Health Department, through STNM Hospital, has been entrusted with deploying mobile emergency medical teams at all three venues on their respective programme dates to ensure prompt medical assistance whenever required.

The District Collector underscored the importance of the timely execution of assigned responsibilities, strict adherence to safety protocols, and close inter-departmental coordination. All departments were directed to complete their preparatory works within the stipulated timelines to ensure that the State-Level Tendong Lho Rum Faat 2026 is conducted in a safe, orderly, and befitting manner.

The District Administration expressed confidence that, through the collective efforts of all departments, stakeholders, and the organising committee, the celebration would not only showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Lepcha community but also reflect the spirit of unity, cooperation, and efficient public service.

Addressing the meeting, the Hon'ble Area MLA, Gangtok Constituency-cum-President, TLRF Celebration Committee 2026, Shri Delay Namgyal, applauded the District Collector for his cooperation and requested committee members to remain in close coordination with the concerned line departments for effective communication and a prompt response in the event of any exigency during the significant state-level celebration.

He further emphasised that the festival not only celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Lepcha community but also reinforces the values of harmony, respect for nature, and unity among communities
