Inspection-cum-Awareness Programme Held at Mangsel for Apparel & Garment Manufacturing Unit at Barfok.

The Apparel & Garment Manufacturing Unit at Barfok, under the Geyzing-Bermiok Constituency, hosted an Inspection-cum-Awareness Programme at Mangsel on 25th March,2026.
The programme was graced by the Hon’ble Area MLA-cum-Advisor, PHE & WRD, Government of Sikkim, Shri Lok Nath Sharma, as the Chief Guest. Shri Tshering Topgay Bhutia, Director, Directorate of Handloom & Handicrafts (DHH), attended the event as the Special Guest, along with other officials from the Directorate.
The initiative, undertaken by the Directorate of Handloom & Handicrafts, Government of Sikkim, is being implemented under the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, with project management support from Indus Integrated Information Management Limited (IIML Ltd.).
The programme aimed to create awareness about the importance and potential impact of the apparel manufacturing sector in the region. Notably, the Apparel & Garment Manufacturing Unit at Barfok is one of its kind in the entire North East Region, marking a significant milestone in the promotion of skill development and industrial growth in Sikkim.
In his address, the Chief Guest stated that such an opportunity had been brought to the area owing to the progressive vision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister. He urged the local residents to make the most of this initiative by upgrading their skills and becoming self-reliant. He further remarked that the apparel manufacturing unit could serve as a gateway to transform the village into a garment manufacturing hub and position it prominently on the global map.
The event stands as a result of the continuous support extended by the Area MLA, Shri Lok Nath Sharma, and the sustained efforts of Shri Tshering Topgay Bhutia, Director, DHH, along with the Commerce & Industries Department.
The unit is scheduled to commence its training programme from 1st April,2026.
