Sikkim Officials Attend two days' National Textiles Summit in New Delhi on 23rd and 24th June 2026
The Summit was organised by the Ministry of Textiles,Government of India under the chairmanship of Union Minister of Textiles, Shri Giriraj Singh.
A three-member delegation from Sikkim participated in the two-day Summit on "Textiles for Global Market: Strategy for Achieving USD 100 Billion Exports by 2030" held on 23-24 June at the NASC Complex, PUSA, New Delhi.
The team was led by Ms. Karma D Youtso, Secretary, Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim and included Shri Tshering Topgay Bhutia, Director, Directorate of Handicrafts & Handlooms, and Ms. Champa Sharma, Joint Secretary, C&I Department.
The Summit saw participation from States and UTs, industry leaders, and Export Promotion Councils. Discussions focused on district and cluster-led export strategies, value addition, infrastructure, sustainability, skilling, and market diversification.
Sessions included an Inaugural Plenary, Technical Sessions, and Group-wise Breakout Sessions to frame actionable recommendations for boosting India’s textile exports.
The Secretary in the ' Breakaway Session' , highlighted the State’s strengths in handlooms, handicrafts, and organic textiles, and discussed ways to improve market linkages for local artisans and weavers. She also mentioned about the steps taken by the State Government in providing incentives and facilities to the artisans and weavers of Sikkim. Growing participation of local entrepreneurs in the handloom and handicraft sector was also touched upon.
A MoU was signed with the Ministry of Textiles and Commerce & Industries Department, Govt of Sikkim under the Tex RAMPS scheme.
The Summit concluded with
deliberations on strategies for strengthening export enablement and enhancing the Country's participation in global textile and apparel value chains
