CIPMC Gangtok Organized Khet Bachao Abhiyan at Perbing Village to save our farm soil through IPM
The Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Gangtok successfully organized a program on 18 June 2026 at Perbing, under Namthang Block, District Namchi, Sikkim, focusing on the promotion of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices in organic cultivation as a part of month long nation-wide Khet Bachao Abhiyan. The programme witnessed active participation from approximately 65 farmers, progressive cultivators, and officials from the State Agriculture Department.
Shri Roman Lepcha, Assistant Director, CIPMC Gangtok, explained seed treatment procedures, different categories of biopesticides, the use of pheromone traps, and the National Pest Surveillance System (NPSS). He also highlighted the importance of Integrated Pest Management in organic farming and emphasized the need for sustainable pest management practices to enhance agricultural productivity while protecting the environment. He also emphasised mandatory soil health cards for farmers to understand specific soil needs.
Mrs. Meena Sharma, ADO and Mrs. Choki Sherpa, HDO discussed about the schemes provided by the state dept. for the benefits of farmers. Ms. Karma Peden Bhutia, SMS, KVK Namthang discussed about soil health and soil pest management to improve crop health and production.
A key feature of the programme was the hands-on field demonstration on seed treatment using biopesticides and the installation of pheromone traps, enabling farmers to gain practical knowledge of IPM techniques.
The programme concluded with an interactive session, where farmers discussed field-level challenges and received expert guidance on sustainable crop protection measures
