Badminton Association of Sikkim Successfully Holds 35th Annual General Body Meeting

Gangtok, 18 May 2026:

The Badminton Association of Sikkim held its 35th Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) on Sunday, 17 May 2026, at Hotel Ramada, Deorali, Gangtok, in the presence of office bearers, life members, affiliated district associations, and invited dignitaries.

The meeting commenced with a warm welcome address by Vice President Shri Mahendra Chettri, followed by an address by President Shri Jacob Kalhing, who highlighted the remarkable progress and achievements of badminton in the State during the year 2025–2026. The house appreciated the consistent efforts undertaken towards the promotion and development of badminton across Sikkim.

During the meeting, General Secretary of BAS, Mr Sukanta Das, presented the Annual Report for the year 2025–2026, while Treasurer of BAS, Mr Karma Bhutia, presented the Annual Financial Report for the same period before the house. Both reports were unanimously adopted following detailed discussions. Various important agendas concerning the future development of badminton infrastructure, player welfare, grassroots programmes, tournament management, and strengthening of affiliated district units were also deliberated upon.

A major highlight of the meeting was the discussion regarding the upcoming hosting of the Junior National Badminton Championship in Sikkim in November 2026. The announcement was received with great enthusiasm and support from all members present. The Association resolved to work collectively towards making the prestigious national event a grand success.

The AGM also expressed its gratitude to the President of the Badminton Association of India, Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, and General Secretary Shri Sanjay Mishra for nominating Sikkim as the host of this prestigious tournament for the first time in the State.

The AGM also witnessed constructive discussions on affiliation matters, renewal of registrations, strengthening administrative coordination, and enhancing participation in State and national ranking tournaments.

The Badminton Association of Sikkim expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, who is also the Chief Patron of BAS, for his valuable guidance and unwavering support. The meeting also extended sincere thanks to Hon’ble Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Shri Raju Basnet and the entire Sports & Youth Affairs Department for their constant support throughout the year.

Appreciation was further extended to all life members, district associations, officials, technical officers, coaches, players, and stakeholders for their dedicated contributions towards the development and promotion of badminton in Sikkim.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Shri Kailash Thapa, followed by a renewed commitment from all members towards elevating badminton in Sikkim to greater heights in the coming years.
