Thirty-three dedicated progressive farmers, including educated unemployed youth, poultry farmers, and entrepreneurs from different parts of the state, successfully completed a Two-Day Residential Training Programme on Poultry Farming organised by the Training and Extension Cell, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Department, at the Sokeythang Training Centre, Tadong, Gangtok.

The curriculum featured an innovative blend of orientation sessions covering:

• Advanced animal handling techniques

• Different breeds of poultry suitable and commonly reared in the state

• Modern housing practices and ration balancing

• Importance of vitamins and their supplementation

• Essential first-aid procedures and disease prevention methods, including timely deworming and vaccination of birds

• Sustainable management practices

• Awareness about various Central and State Government schemes in the Animal Husbandry sector

• Importance of registration of animals (both livestock and poultry) and livestock census

• Animal insurance

• Subsidised loans, KCC, etc.

The valedictory ceremony was held on 3rd February 2026. The event was graced by distinguished officials, including Dr. Sanjay M. Gajmer, Director (T&E/C&D), along with Additional Directors, Joint Directors, and senior officials from the Department.
