District Level Hands-On Training Programme on Fodder Management Techniques.

The Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) Department, Gyalshing District, conducted a District-Level Hands-on Training Programme on Fodder Management Techniques at the Gyaba Poultry Farm premises.
The programme was conducted in the presence of Shri B.B. Subba, Additional Director Cum Head of Office (HOO), Gyalshing District. In his address, he emphasized the importance of developing fodder plantations on departmental land under each veterinary centre. He encouraged all staff members to acquire practical knowledge of fodder cultivation and management techniques and to motivate farmers to cultivate perennial fodder crops. He also highlighted that establishing fodder plantations on departmental land is an important step towards fodder conservation and ensuring a sustainable supply of quality fodder.
Dr. Roshan Pirthawar, Deputy Director, AH&VS Department, Gyalshing District, delivered a technical session to the Veterinary Officers and staff from various centres across the district. He explained the different types of fodder and distinguished between forage and fodder. He also discussed the different seasonal and perennial fodder crops, recommended cutting sizes, planting techniques for higher yield, and proper crop management practices. In addition, he briefed the participants on fodder conservation methods such as hay making and silage making to ensure the availability of nutritious fodder during the lean season. He further emphasized the importance of harvesting fodder at the optimum stage of growth to maximize its nutritional value.
The programme concluded with a practical hands-on training session on Hybrid Napier grass plantation. Participants were trained on the recommended planting method, ensuring that the node remained below the soil surface, with at least four stem cuttings planted in each pit for better establishment and higher productivity. The Hybrid Napier CO-2 and CO-4 planting materials supplied by the State Fodder Seed Bank, Karfectar, were used during the practical demonstration.
A total of 60 participants, including Veterinary Officers, departmental staff, and farm personnel, attended the programme and actively participated in the hands-on training session.
