ONE-DAY AT SCHOOL PROGRAMME CONDUCTED AT PM SHRI RB GURUNG GOVT. SR. SEC. SCHOOL, KALUK

Kaluk, 18.09.2026: Under the direction of the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Soreng District, the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) Department, Soreng District, successfully conducted a “One-Day at School” Programme at PM Shri RB Gurung Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Kaluk.

The programme aimed to create awareness among students on livestock-related activities, animal health, zoonotic diseases and animal welfare.

The programme included the following awareness sessions:

1. Veterinary Career Counselling – Dr. Miwang Tamang, VO provided students with an overview of the veterinary profession, educational pathways and career opportunities in veterinary science and allied fields.

2. Scope of Dairy Industry – Smt. Ambika Adhikari, ADDO, highlighted the scope and potential of dairy farming as a sustainable livelihood and income-generating activity, and briefed the students on the importance of clean milk production and scientific dairy management.

1. Rabies Awareness – Dr. Sharin Gurung, VO, sensitised the students about rabies, its mode of transmission, preventive measures, responsible pet ownership and the importance of immediate medical attention following an animal bite.

2. Avian Influenza Awareness – Dr. Julina Subba, VO, briefed the students on Avian influenza, its prevention and control, safe handling of poultry and the importance of promptly reporting unusual bird mortality to the concerned authorities.

3. Animal Welfare Awareness – Dr. Kunzang Palmoo Bhutia, JD, highlighted the importance of kindness, compassion and responsible care towards animals, while sensitising students on basic animal welfare principles and humane treatment of animals.

4. Dr Kishore Thapa, Additional Director, AH&VS Department, Soreng District, addressed the students and emphasised the importance of responsible animal ownership, disease prevention and the role of the younger generation in promoting awareness regarding animal health and welfare.

The awareness sessions were followed by an engaging quiz competition, in which students enthusiastically participated. The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners.

The Principal of PM Shri RB Gurung Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Kaluk, appreciated the efforts of the AH&VS Department in conducting the programme and acknowledged the importance of such awareness initiatives for students and the wider community.
