Exposure Visit to Rhenock, Pakyong District, Organised by ATMA Soreng District
A one day Inter District Exposure visit cum Farmers Training within State was organised by Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Soreng District, that took a group of 24 farmers to two key locations- Hazarey Brothers’ Integrated Organic Farm and Gerbera Farm School, both located at Rhenock, Pakyong District.
The team included Mr Manish Pradhan, (Deputy Project Director ATMA Soreng District) along with Ms Amimsha Limboo (ADO Soreng District), 24 Progressive Farmers of Soreng District, Assistant Technology Managers (ATMs), Block Technology Managers (BTMs), ATMA, Soreng District and District Farmers Advisory Committee (DFAC & BFAC) Chairpersons and field functionaries.
The group visited the Gerbera farm school of Mr. Bauz Laksom, where the farmers were able to interact with the farm school teacher and learn about the proper ways and methods to commercially cultivate Gerbera flowers for profitable marketing.
The second visit was to Hazarey Brothers Integrated Organic Farm school where all the farm enterprises were explored. The farm included an Apiary unit, Goatery, Diary unit, Fishery unit, Vegetable farming, Value added products, such as pickles, flours, dried vegetables, honey, etc. The farm was self sustainable in its operations from production to post harvest management to packaging and marketing. All the visitor farmers were very keen to learn about the ways in which one farming family could run a successful business model based purely on organic farming practices.
The Hazarey brothers also provided training on chilli disease and pest management for organic control of anthracnose, informed everyone about the income generation and self sufficiency that farming venture has provided to their household of three brothers and their families.
The visit concluded on a successful note with fruitful farmer to farmer interaction among farmers of the two districts, knowledge and technology sharing for the ultimate goal of upliftment and economic development of progressive farmers of Soreng District
