DIG SHQ GANGTOK CONDUCTS TWO-DAY OPERATIONAL INSPECTION AT 72nd BATTALION SSB YUKSAM

A Hemochandra, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Sector Headquarters Gangtok, conducted a comprehensive two-day formal inspection of the 72nd Battalion Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Yuksam, spanning April 13th and 14th, 2026.

The visit commenced on April 13th with a rigorous inspection of the forward areas. The DIG visited Border Outpost (BOP) Sopakha, Coy Intake, and Coy Nambu to assess the prevailing security grid and operational preparedness along the border. During his interaction with the troops stationed at these high-altitude locations, he lauded their unwavering dedication and high morale in safeguarding the nation's frontiers.

Upon his arrival at the Battalion Headquarters on April 14th, Shri A Hemochandra was accorded a warm traditional welcome by Shri Narayan Ram Khadaw, Second-in-Command (2IC) of the 72nd Battalion. This was followed by a ceremonial 'Guard of Honour' at the Quarter Guard, presented with impeccable military precision.

The DIG subsequently chaired a high-level strategic review meeting with the unit's leadership to discuss security challenges and administrative matters. Highlighting the force's commitment to the environment, he also participated in a plantation drive within the unit premises.

A 'Sainik Sammelan' (Special Troops' Conference) was organized where the DIG addressed the personnel, emphasizing the importance of alertness, discipline, and professional integrity. He encouraged the troops to maintain the highest standards of physical and mental fitness.

The visit culminated in a 'Bada Khana' (traditional ceremonial feast), providing a platform for the DIG to interact personally with the jawans in an informal setting. This gesture significantly boosted the esprit de corps of the battalion before the DIG’s departure for Gangtok.
