Members of the Farmers Welfare Board of Sikkim met Bhagat Singh Koshyari, former Governor of Maharashtra, at Lok Bhawan in Mumbai today.

During the interaction, Shri Koshyari, who served as the 22nd Governor of Maharashtra from 2019 to 2023 and earlier as the second Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, shared his perspectives on strengthening the agricultural sector. He advised the Board members to motivate and organise farmers of Sikkim towards commercially viable and sustainable agricultural practices.

He emphasised diversification into high-potential areas such as cultivation of medicinal and aromatic herbs with strong market prospects, while maintaining ecological balance. He also highlighted the importance of collective organisation, awareness, and capacity-building initiatives to enhance farmers’ livelihoods.

The Board members expressed appreciation for his guidance and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting farmer welfare and sustainable agricultural development in the State. The interaction concluded with an exchange of views on advancing innovative and market-oriented agricultural practices.
