Soreng, 9 February 2026 (Monday):
A high-level team of officers from the Education Department, Government of Sikkim, conducted an extensive inspection of government schools across Soreng District today to review academic preparedness and the availability of essential resources.
The visiting team comprised Shri Tashi Chopel, Secretary, Education Department, Shri A. D. Chettri, Director, Textbook & Language, Samagra Shiksha, Smt. Lamkila Bhutia, Joint Director (Planning), and Smt. Anugrah E. Rai, Joint Director, School Education, along with District officials Shri Tenzing Dorjee Bhutia, Chief Education Officer, Soreng District, Shri Prajwal Thapa, Assistant Engineer, Shri Anil Sharma, Assistant Education Officer and Shri Kunzang Sherpa, President, STA, Soreng District.
The team visited the following government schools under Soreng District:
1. Government JHS, Bojek
2. Government Primary School, Bhareng
3. PM SHRI Secondary School, Tikpur
4. Government Secondary School, Okhrey
5. Government Senior Secondary School, Sombaria
6. Nima Sherpa Memorial Senior Secondary School, Ribdi
During the inspection, the officers reviewed the distribution of textbooks, exercise copies, uniforms, school bags, shoes, and other essential materials provided to students. The visit also focused on overall school preparedness, including student attendance, availability of teaching and non-teaching staff, and the status of academic and infrastructural facilities.
The team further enquired into the use of centralized question papers during the previous academic year. Detailed interactions were held with teachers, and their feedback and suggestions were carefully noted.
Special attention was given to Bojek JHS, the Aspirational School of Soreng District. The team interacted with teachers, non-teaching staff, and students, discussed school-specific issues, and recorded grievances and challenges faced by the institution for necessary follow-up and redressal.
The Education Department reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the quality of education and ensuring a conducive learning environment in all government schools across Soreng District.
