2nd Phase Cataract Screening Camp Concludes Successfully
Soreng, 4th September 2026: The 2nd phase of the Free Cataract Screening Programme was successfully concluded today at Soreng Rural project One Stop Centre Soreng District.
The programme was organized by WCSC&DW Department in collaboration with ROTATORY LIONS CLUB SILIGURI with the objective to identify cataract cases and provide timely treatment to prevent avoidable blindness.
The beneficiaries already done the First Eye Cataract Surgery and today is second phase for same beneficiaries for second cataract surgery.
In the 2nd phase, a total of 14 beneficiaries were screened by a team of ophthalmologists of Lions Club and Staff of Rural Project Soreng .All of them, persons were identified with cataract and referred for free surgery at Siliguri Lions Club
Speaking on the occasion, said, "We are committed to making our District free from avoidable blindness. The overwhelming response in the 1st and 2nd phase shows the need for such camps. We thank all our colleagues, medical team, and CA madam Miss Rinzing Tamang and staff of One Stop Centre, SWI Mr Pema Sherpa, District Coordinator Madam Mrs Kunta Chettri for their tireless effort, support and sacrificing the Holiday .
The programme witnessed active participation of community members, Free spectacles, medicines, and counselling services were also provided.
The Department expresses heartfelt gratitude to all staff, doctors, and supporters for making the programme a grand success.
