Sensitisation Workshop on PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana Held at Pelling

Gyalshing, June 25 : A sensitisation workshop on the implementation of rooftop solar power systems under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana was conducted today at Voyage Hotel and Resorts, Pelling. The programme was organised by the People to People Health Foundation (PPHF) in collaboration with the Sikkim Renewable Energy Development Agency (SREDA) and District Administration, Gyalshing.

The workshop was chaired by Zilla Adhakshya, Gyalshing, Shri D.S. Limboo accompanied by Additional District Collector (Development), Gyalshing, Shri Surat Gurung, along with Panchayati Raj Institution representatives and officials from the concerned departments.

The programme aimed to sensitise stakeholders on the technical specifications, documentation requirements, beneficiary selection criteria and implementation modalities of the project to ensure effective execution and sustainable maintenance of the installations.

The initiative is being undertaken under the HRDP–HDFC Bank Parivartan CSR Programme in convergence with the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. Under the project, 100 economically disadvantaged households across 15 shortlisted revenue villages of Gyalshing District will be provided with 1 KW on-grid rooftop solar power systems. The initiative seeks to promote clean and renewable energy, reduce household electricity expenditure and enhance energy security in remote and hilly areas of the district.

The identified villages include Gerethang, Labing, Yuksom, Dubdi, Thingling I, Thingling II, Tsozo, Khecheopalri, Melliaching, Topung and Singlitam under Yuksom Block and Maneybong, Dentam Begha, Karmatar and Mangmoo under Dentam Block.

The workshop was also attended by Block Development Officer, Yuksom, Shri Samman Limboo, Zilla Panchayat Members Shri K.M. Limboo, Shri Dinesh Gurung and Smt. Devi Maya Chettri, In-charge, PWMU Yuksom, Shri Tsheten Tashi Bhutia, Panchayat Presidents and representatives of the concerned Gram Panchayat Units, along with officials of the implementing agency, including Project Manager, PPHF, Shri Rajiv Kumar, and Assistant Project Manager, Shri Samar Das.

During the deliberations, the Zilla Adhakshya and ADC (Development) emphasised the importance of community participation in promoting renewable energy adoption and urged Panchayat representatives to undertake extensive awareness activities at the grassroots level. They further directed the immediate initiation of site surveys for the identification of eligible beneficiaries and the timely submission of beneficiary lists to facilitate the smooth and expeditious implementation of the project.

The workshop concluded with a shared commitment among all stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the project through coordinated efforts, timely execution and active community participation. The initiative is expected to contribute significantly towards promoting sustainable energy solutions, enhancing energy access and improving the socio-economic well-being of eligible households across Gyalshing District.
