Gyalshing, November 19:
The Labour Department, in coordination with District Task Force (DTF) for Rescue and Rehabilitation of Child and Adolescent Labour, commenced a district-wide Awareness Programme through miking across all Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs) on November 18, 2025. The initiative aims to declare Gyalshing District a Child and Adolescent Labour Free District through extensive public outreach and community participation.
The miking campaign was formally flagged off by Hon’ble Zilla Adhyaksha, Gyalshing District, Mr Dhan Singh Limboo, in presence of gram panchayat representatives, members of the general public and DTF officials, including SDM Yuksam, BDO Yuksam, BDO Chongrang, Assistant Labour Commissioners, Labour Inspectors and Police Personnel.
Following the inaugural ceremony, two miking teams were dispatched, one for Chongrang Block, led by Mr Sanman Subba, ALC covering six GPUs and another for Yuksam Block, led by Mr Tilak Chand Sharma, ALC covering five GPUs.
During the programme, gram panchayat members were sensitised on the provisions of the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, along with the overarching objectives of the ongoing awareness drive. Panchayat executives were also urged to conduct thorough verification of child and adolescent labour cases within their respective wards before submitting the final declaration certificates to the District Task Force.
The general public was appealed to report any instance of child labour found in households, construction sites, workshops/garages, petrol pumps, shops, or commercial establishments through the toll-free helpline 1098.
The first day of the miking programme concluded with an encouraging response from all stakeholders. The awareness drive will continue until 27 November 2025, covering all 33 Gram Panchayat Units and one Nagar Panchayat Unit under Gyalshing District, ensuring comprehensive outreach across the district.
