Gangtok, December 28 (IPR):
The Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, Mr Pralhad Joshi, visited Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass in Gangtok District today as part of his official visit to Sikkim.
During his visit to Nathula Pass, the Union Minister was briefed by Army officers on the historical and strategic significance of the pass, including important events associated with Nathula Pass and various agreements between India and China.The Army officers also apprised him of the role and responsibilities of the Indian Army in safeguarding the border in the high-altitude region.
The Union Minister interacted with Army personnel stationed at Nathula Pass and appreciated their dedication and service under challenging climatic conditions. He also visited Tsomgo Lake, a major tourist destination in the district, and took note of its natural beauty and tourism potential.
As part of his itinerary, the Union Minister visited the Old Baba Mandir near Kupup, where he paid homage and offered prayers.
The Union Minister was accompanied by Liaison Officer-cum-Assistant Director, Food & Civil Supplies Department, Gangtok, Mr Sarat Tamang, along with senior officers from Food Corporation of India and officers from concerned line departments.
