Pakyong, September 01 (IPR): The inaugural programme of the Training on Honey Processing under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, was held at Takchang School, Pakyong, today.
The ten-day training programme is being organised by the Commerce and Industries Department in collaboration with ApiCare Organic Farms and Honey Production Private Limited, with the objective of equipping beekeepers with technical knowledge and skills in scientific beekeeping.
The day was graced by CA to HCM, Mr Urgen Lepcha as the Chief Guest, in the presence of Zilla Panchayat, Dr Subhadra Dangal and OSD, IT Department, Mr Bum Tshering Yonzon.
Addressing the gathering, CA to HCM, Mr Urgen Lepcha, highlighted the importance of skill-based beekeeping training and stated that beekeeping can serve as a relatively low-effort livelihood opportunity, emphasising that the adoption of modern machinery and improved techniques and can simplify the process and enhance productivity for beekeepers.
Highlighting the ecological importance of bees, he shared information on their role in the environment and shared insights related to beekeeping, while encouraging the participants to utilise the opportunity to equip themselves. Further, he highlighted the various efforts undertaken by the state government in the region towards promoting sustainable livelihoods and improving the socio-economic well-being of the people.
Founder of ApiCare, Mr Pradeep Pradhan, outlined the organisation’s vision of promoting sustainable development based on the principles of People, Planet and Profit. He stated that the training aims to equip farmers with knowledge of scientific beekeeping, eco-friendly honey collection, processing and packaging, while creating awareness of market opportunities and strengthening the linkage between farmers and markets.
He further highlighted the ecological significance of bees, particularly their vital role in pollination, biodiversity conservation and agricultural productivity. Additionally, he stated that ApiCare seeks to create sustainable livelihoods while preserving biodiversity and promoting beekeeping as a viable and sustainable livelihood option.
Resource Person from DIC Pakyong, Mr Dilip Ruchal, highlighted the Chief Minister’s vision of “One Family, One Entrepreneur” and encouraged the trainees to actively participate in the training and gain practical knowledge of beekeeping. He further informed that, upon completion of the training, participants can avail assistance under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) to pursue their entrepreneurial journey.
The ten-day training programme will be conducted at Takchang School by Master Trainer, Mr Dal Bahadur Rai.
The programme was also attended by officials from the Commerce and Industries Department and participants.
