Pakyong, September 15 (IPR): A training programme on water resource monitoring and spring water preservation, was organised for officials of Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department, at the conference hall of District Administrative Centre (DAC), Pakyong, today.
The training aimed to apprise the officials on monitoring the district’s water resources with emphasis on spring-water conservation, groundwater recharge, sustainable water management and community-based approaches, with the objective of strengthening and building water security across the district.
The session was conducted by Resource Person, Mr Aditya Jain wherein he provided insights into the changing rainfall patterns and their implications for water availability, particularly in hilly regions. He highlighted the importance of understanding the relationship between rainfall, runoff, infiltration and groundwater recharge in order to develop effective and sustainable strategies for spring water preservation.
He emphasised on the adoption of nature-based solutions for improving groundwater recharge and sustaining springs, while highlighting the importance of identifying recharge areas and implementing suitable interventions based on the local hydrogeological conditions.
Additionally, he elaborated on methods for monitoring springs and assessing their condition, stressing the need for regular observation and data collection to understand changes in discharge and water availability, further encouraging officials to engage with local communities in identifying water-related issues and developing practical solutions.
The session was also had the presence of Deputy Director LR&DMD, Mr Subash Dhakal; DPO Pakyong, Mr Tikaram Chettri, along with officials from LR&DMD.
