Tragic Landslide Claims Life in Sardong, Maneybung Dentam Constituency.

Gyalshing, September 14(IPR):A tragic landslide struck Upper Sardong, Lama Gaon Ward, Gyalshing District, on the evening of 13th September 2025, claiming the life of Mr Rajen Gurung (47 years), Panchayat President of 19-Sardong-Lungzick GPU. Mr Gurung was caught in the slide near his residence around 2000 hrs and despite immediate efforts, succumbed to the injuries. His mortal remains were recovered from the debris at around 2230 hrs.

Area MLA-Cum-Advisor Tourism,Mr Sudesh Kr Subba visited the bereaved family to offer condolences and extend support in this moment of grief. He also took stock of the damages caused by the landslide.

Further,the Gyalshing District Administration, as the first responder, promptly initiated and coordinated the search and rescue operation, ensuring swift mobilisation of resources in close coordination with DDMA, Health, Forest, Quick Response Teams (QRTs), and with the strong support of local villagers.

DC Gyalshing Mr Denzongpa handed over Ex gratia cheque to the family members of the deceased as per norms in presence of Area MLA (Maneybung-Dentam), Mr Sudesh Kumar Subba on September 14.

Area MLA Mr Subba was accompanied by Zilla Upa-adakshya Gyalshing Ms Anita Rai, Chairman PWD Mr BM Subba,DC Gyalshing Mr Tenzing D Denzongpa,OSDs,ADC Gyalshing Mr Suresh Rai,ADC (Dev)Mr Surat Kumar Gurung,ASP Mr Sonam Wangdi Bhutia,SDM Dentam Mr NK Karki,DPO DDMA Gyalshing Mr Ganesh Kumar Rai, Panchayat representatives, and general public.
