Tourism Minister inspects key Tourism infrastructure in Yuksam.


Gyalshing, February 10 (IPR): Minister for Tourism & Civil Aviation department Mr Tshering T Bhutia, conducted a preliminary inspection of key tourism infrastructure at Yuksam on Monday.

The Minister was accompanied by Secretary, Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, Ms Hondala Gyaltsen, Additional Director, Mr Tenzing Gelay, Joint Director (Adventure Cell), Mr Kazi Sherpa, Senior CHA, Mr Vikash Rai, Assistant Director, District Tourism Office, Gyalshing, Mr Gyamtso Tshering Bhutia, along with other officials, Gram Panchayat members, and local stakeholders.

The Minister, along with a team of officials, visited the Coronation Park site where statues of the three Lamas and the first Chogyal of Sikkim are being installed. The project is nearing completion, with about 90 percent of the construction work already finished.

During the visit, the Minister also reviewed the office setup of the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) at Yuksam, which is likely to be operational soon. Once functional, trekking permits for the world-renowned Khangchendzonga trek, including the Dzongri-Goechala route, will be issued directly from the TIC, Yuksam, providing major convenience to tourists and relief to local tourism stakeholders.

The Minister further inspected the proposed outreach centre of the Indian Himalayan Centre for Ecotourism and Adventure (IHCEA), which will operate alongside the TIC. The centre will provide training in adventure activities, mountaineering, and allied sports for tourists as well as local youth.

Highlighting the importance of the projects, the Minister stated that under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, the State Government is committed to bring every corner of Sikkim onto the global tourism map.

Minister added that these initiatives will boost the local economy, promote sustainable tourism, and contribute to the socio-economic upliftment of the people of the state.

The Minister informed that the facilities will be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang-Golay.
