Soreng, September 10 (IPR): Soreng District Police today sensitised officials of the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Soreng, on cybercrime through an awareness programme held at the DAC.
During the programme, ASP Soreng, Mr Parshu Ram Sharma, briefed the officials on various aspects of cybercrime. He stated that cybercrime can affect both literate and illiterate individuals and emphasised the need for vigilance and presence of mind while using digital platforms. He also explained the concept of digital arrest and other emerging cyber frauds. Highlighting the importance of timely reporting, he informed the gathering about the National Cyber Crime Helpline Number 1930 and the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal www.cybercrime.gov.in.
SDPO Soreng, Mr Chewang Dorjee Bhutia, elaborated on different types of cybercrimes, including online extortion, donation scams, scholarship scams and online gaming scams. He also highlighted the significance of the emergency response support system through Helpline Number 112. Further, he briefed the officials on the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the POCSO Rules, 2012. He urged the officials to disseminate the awareness messages among their neighbours and within their respective communities to help prevent cybercrime.
The programme concluded with an interactive open discussion, during which participants shared their experiences and exchanged views on cyber safety and preventive measures.
