Soreng, November 29 (IPR): The final day of the Inter-Departmental Cricket Tournament, organised by the Cooperation Department on the occasion of the International Year of Cooperatives in collaboration with the District Administrative Centre (Soreng), was held at Jautar Stadium, Soreng, today.
MLA (Rinchenpong) Mr Erung Tenzing Lepcha graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and was accompanied by OSDs, PRCS cum Secretary (Cooperation Department) Ms Jabi Thapa, DC (Soreng) Mr Dhiraj Subedi, ADC-I Mr DR Bista, ADC-II Mr Santosh Kumar Allay, Additional Registrar (Cooperation Department) Ms Sarda Roka, Additional Registrar (Cooperation Department) Mr PD Bhutia, SDM (Soreng) Ms Sakchum Lepcha, JD (Fisheries) cum President (Soreng, Olympic Association) Mr Lobsang Tamang and Deputy Director (Sports and Youth Affairs) Ms Mamita Gurung.
The event commenced with the welcoming of the guests, dignitaries and participants.
The first match featured an exhibition game between MLA-11 and DC-11. MLA-11 set a target of 154 runs, while DC-11 ended with 102, resulting in a 52 run win for MLA-11.
Following this, the participants were presented with mementos as a token of appreciation by the Chief Guest Mr Erung Tenzing Lepcha, along with signed memorabilia for the 28 departments of Soreng District and the special guests.
The second match was played between the Education Department (Rinchenpong) and the Combined Team comprising IPR, Water Resource, Pay & Accounts and Cooperation Departments (Soreng) where, Education Department (Rinchenpong) emerged victorious by 21 runs.
The winning team was awarded a trophy along with a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, while the runners-up received a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000, sponsored by MLA (Soreng–Chakung) Mr Aditya Golay. Additionally, all participants were presented with Certificates of Participation.
The Player of the Match was Mr Sadesh Gurung (Education Department, Rinchenpong) for 93 runs and 1 wicket, while the Player of the Tournament was Mr Andriyas Rai (Cooperation & Irrigation Department, Soreng) for scoring 349 runs and taking 8 wickets.
Likewise, the Best Bowler of the tournament was Mr Nitesh Sharma (Forest Department, Soreng) for 9 wickets with an economy of 5.33 in 5 matches, while the Best Batsman was Mr Sadesh Gurung (Education Department, Rinchenpong) for his impressive 199 runs in 6 matches.
Also, present at the event were Heads of Departments, officers and officials from various line departments, representatives and volunteers of the Soreng District Cricket Association and Soreng Badminton Association along with general public.
