Gangtok, March 29 (IPR): The three-day Sikkim Slam 3x3 Open Basketball Tournament concluded today, with the final matches held at the Indoor Basketball Court, Paljor Stadium, Gangtok.
MLA-cum-Advisor, Urban Development and Food & Civil Supplies Department, Mr Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, attended the programme as the Chief Guest, while Gyalsey Palden Gyurmed Namgyal and Princess Hope Leezum Namgyal graced the occasion as the Guests of Honour.
In the women’s final, Budhanilkantha, Nepal, faced Alley Oop, Uttar Pradesh, with Alley Oop emerging victorious by 20–14.
In the men’s final, Kurseong took on SYM (Salesian Youth Movement), Shillong, where SYM secured the title with a close 17–15 win.
Deputy Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Ms Raj Kumari Thapa, handed over trophies and cash prizes to the winning teams.
The organising committee also felicitated the guests and sponsors, and presented mementos in appreciation of their support and contribution to the successful conduct of the tournament.
Also present on the occasion were Chief Patron and MLA, Soreng-Chakung, Mr Aditya Golay; MLA-cum-Advisor, Roads and Bridges Department, Mr Erung Tenzing Lepcha; Managing Director, State Bank of Sikkim, Mr Phurba Wangdi, along with officials, officers, members of the organising committee, players, and other dignitaries.
The tournament was organised by the District Administrative Centre, Gangtok, and Gangtok District Police, in association with Freedom Rehabilitation Facility and Ravens Basketball Club.
Earlier, a band display was presented by Tashi Namgyal Academy.
The tournament concluded with the prize distribution ceremony, following which the Chief Guest formally declared the event closed.
