Mangan, September 9 (IPR): The Block-level School Games 2026, organised by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Sikkim, continued today at Passingdang Government Secondary School under Dzongu Block, Mangan District, with enthusiastic participation from school students across the block.
The day’s programme featured Under-17 Boys and Girls athletics events, comprising the 100 metres, 400 metres, 800 metres, 1500 metres, Shot Put and Long Jump.
The programme was attended by Panchayat representative Mr Zigmee Lepcha, Additional Director, Sports, Ms Janim Lepcha, Deputy Director (Education) Mr Namgey Lepcha, Passingdang School In-charge Mr Ongel Lepcha, along with Physical Education Teachers, teachers from participating schools, officials and staff of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs and local residents.
A total of 103 athletes from six schools participated in the day’s events. Lingthem Junior High School, Hee-Gyathang Senior Secondary School, Passingdang Government Secondary School, Lingdong Government Secondary School, Gor Government Secondary School and Sangtok Government Junior High School.
Following the competitions, 20 athletes were selected to represent Dzongu Block at the district-level events, scheduled to be held at the Mangan Public Ground on September 21st.
The School Games 2026, being conducted across different blocks of Mangan District from September 7 to September 12, aim to provide school students with a structured platform to identify and nurture sporting talent while promoting physical fitness, discipline, teamwork and a healthy spirit of competition.
The initiative also reinforces the importance of sports in the holistic development of young people and encourages greater participation in organised sporting activities at the grassroots level.
