Namchi, August 10: A review meeting to assess the preparations for the celebration of Independence Day 2026 was held at the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Conference Hall, Namchi, today.
The meeting was chaired by Additional District Collector (Namchi) Ms Tirsang Tamang, along with Additional Superintendent of Police (Namchi) Mr Mani Kumar Tamang. The meeting was convened to review the progress of preparations and ensure timely completion of all arrangements as directed during the preparatory meeting held on July 31, 2026.
During the meeting, responsibilities assigned to the respective departments were reviewed and further reiterated. The Police Department was entrusted with security arrangements, traffic management, parade and ceremonial preparations, while the District Administration was tasked with overall coordination and supervision of the arrangements. The Namchi Municipal Council was assigned responsibilities pertaining to cleanliness, sanitation and beautification of the venue and surrounding areas.
The Public Works Department was entrusted with necessary infrastructure, maintenance and venue-related arrangements, while the Power Department was directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply and electrical arrangements. The Health Department was tasked with medical arrangements and emergency preparedness, and the Fire and Emergency Services with fire-safety and emergency response measures.
The Education Department was entrusted with coordination of students participating in the parade, cultural programmes and other ceremonial activities. The Information and Public Relations Department (IPR), Namchi, was entrusted with publicity, media coordination, documentation and dissemination of information related to the celebrations.
Officials and representatives concerned attended the meeting and updated the chair on the preparations undertaken by their respective departments. Various aspects related to the upcoming Independence Day celebration were reviewed, with emphasis on coordinated efforts, timely execution of assigned responsibilities and ensuring that all arrangements were completed well in advance.
Responsibilities were also assigned to other concerned departments and agencies for various aspects of the programme, including venue management, cultural and ceremonial arrangements, decoration, seating, transportation, protocol, drinking water, sanitation, public address system, reception of guests and other logistical requirements. All concerned departments were directed to work in close coordination and ensure timely completion of their respective assignments.
The meeting was attended by Heads of Offices (HoOs) from various Line Departments and representatives from the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Namchi.
