Gangtok, April 23 (IPR):
Three polling teams, each comprising three Polling Officers and one Presiding Officer, were deployed today from the District Administrative Centre, Gangtok, by the Municipal Returning Officer-cum-District Collector, Gangtok, Mr Tushar Nikhare, to Paljor Namgyal Girls’ School, which has been designated as the polling station for the Gangtok Municipal Elections 2026. 10-DPH Ward is the only contesting ward under the Gangtok Municipal Corporation, with voting scheduled for April 24, 2026.
Prior to the teams being sent to their respective polling stations, the strong room was opened in the presence of the Municipal Returning Officer-cum-District Collector, Mr Tushar Nikhare; Election Observer-cum-Secretary, Culture Department, Mr Basant Kr Lama; Assistant Municipal Returning Officer-cum-ADM, Gangtok, Mr Sisum Wangchuk Bhutia; Assistant Municipal Returning Officer-cum-ADC (HQ), Mr Tshering Norgyal Theengh; Assistant Municipal Returning Officer-cum-SDM, Gangtok, Mr Mahendra Chettri; Deputy Director, DDMA, Ms Bijayata Kharel; Under Secretary, Election Cell, Ms Dhan Maya Rasaily; Assistant Collector, Gangtok, Mr Bhawesh Khyalia; along with police personnel, officials on election duty, and representatives of the contesting candidates from the 10-DPH Ward.
Mr Tushar Nikhare also briefed the polling teams and instructed the polling personnel as well as representatives of the contesting candidates to cross-check the commissioned machines against their designated serial numbers.
Presiding Officers verified all materials as per the checklist provided, while police personnel were briefed on their respective logistical arrangements. He further informed that a reserve polling team has been kept on standby, subject to any exigencies. Concluding his address, he outlined the procedures to ensure the smooth and efficient conduct of the polls.
Also present today were officials of Electronics Corporation of India Ltd and officials on election duty.
