A review meeting of the Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) and Substance Abuse among Children for Gyalshing District was convened today in hybrid mode under the chairmanship of the District Collector-cum-District Magistrate, Gyalshing, Mr Tenzing D. Denzongpa.
Gyalshing, June 15 (IPR): A review meeting of the Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) and Substance Abuse among Children for Gyalshing District was convened today in hybrid mode under the chairmanship of the District Collector-cum-District Magistrate, Gyalshing, Mr Tenzing D. Denzongpa.
The meeting was attended by the Superintendent of Police, Gyalshing, Mr Tshering Sherpa, ADC Gyalshing, Mr Suresh Rai, Commandant, 72nd Battalion, Yuksam, Mr Jai Prakash, along with representatives from various line departments, educational institutions, local bodies and other stakeholders concerned with drug demand reduction and prevention of substance abuse. SDMs, BDOs and officials stationed outside the district headquarters also participated through virtual mode.
During the meeting, ADC Gyalshing, Mr Suresh Rai, reviewed the minutes of the previous NCORD meeting and apprised the house of the progress and follow-up action taken by the concerned departments on the decisions and directives issued earlier. He also reviewed the status of various initiatives being undertaken across the district to combat drug abuse and substance dependency, particularly among children and youth.
The Superintendent of Police, Gyalshing, informed the house that no cases under the SADA/NDPS Act were registered in the district during the previous month. He further reported that 1,714 cannabis plants had been uprooted as part of ongoing enforcement efforts and that various awareness activities had been conducted across the district to sensitise the public on the ill effects of substance abuse.
Officials from DCPO Gyalshing, Health, Education, Social Welfare, Sports and Youth Affairs, Agriculture/Horticulture, Tourism, Forest, SIB, Excise, 36th Battalion Yangtey and other departments shared updates on their respective activities and interventions aimed at creating awareness and supporting vulnerable groups.
The meeting also deliberated on strategies to intensify awareness campaigns in educational institutions and communities, promote early identification and counselling of affected individuals, and strengthen support mechanisms for rehabilitation and reintegration.
The District Collector reviewed the agenda items discussed during the meeting and issued necessary directions to the concerned departments for effective implementation of NCORD activities across the district. He directed the SDMs and BDOs to remain vigilant and ensure regular awareness and sensitisation programmes within their respective jurisdictions. He further instructed all departments to actively share relevant inputs and contribute towards the collective objective of maintaining a drug-free district.
The District Collector also directed all departments to designate a Nodal Officer for NCORD-related matters and ensure the regular participation of the designated officer in NCORD meetings. Additionally, he suggested that NCORD meetings be convened during the first week of every month for timely review and coordinated action.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on continuing coordinated efforts to prevent substance abuse and ensure a safer and healthier environment for children and youth across Gyalshing District.
