Media Briefed on SPG Protocols Ahead of PM’s Visit to Sikkim
Gangtok, April 26 (IPR): A media briefing on Special Protection Group (SPG) guidelines was held today at the conference hall of Soochna Bhawan, Gangtok, in view of the forthcoming visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to Sikkim.
Chairman, IPR Department, Mr Ashit Rai, in his address, described the visit as a momentous occasion for the state and stressed the critical role of the media in shaping public communication during such high-level engagements.
He highlighted the need for authenticity and responsibility in reporting, urging media personnel to strictly adhere to all prescribed SPG guidelines and protocols.
He further called upon the media fraternity to work in close alignment with official agencies to ensure smooth and secure coverage while upholding the dignity and sensitivity of the state.
Press Secretary to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Mr Yougan Tamang, emphasised adherence to norms and protocols, urging media persons to function as responsible stakeholders during the visit.
He highlighted the importance of disseminating only verified and official information, particularly in view of the state’s strategic sensitivity. He also encouraged constructive and wide outreach of the event while respecting all security considerations.
At the outset of the meeting earlier, District Information Officer (DIO), Gangtok, Mr Dependra Sharma, informed that SPG teams have been in the capital over the past few days and are undertaking regular recce as part of security preparedness.
He reiterated the detailed guidelines that have been issued by concerned agencies, and stated that strict adherence to all SPG protocols is mandatory. It was clearly conveyed that official coverage will be facilitated through designated agencies.
Media personnel were advised to follow all instructions regarding designated coverage areas, movement protocols, and security restrictions and were urged to maintain professional ethics, ensure accuracy in reporting, and remain within assigned media zones at all times.
The meeting was also addresses by Deputy Director (Photo), Mr Keshap Chettri, wherein he informed that official visuals of the visit will be shared through authorised channels.
The briefing, moderated by Senior Information Assistant, IPR, Ms Bishali Khati, concluded with the distribution of media passes to the national, local, and official media representatives and an appeal for full cooperation from all to ensure smooth, secure, and responsible coverage of the Prime Minister’s visit to Sikkim.
