Namchi, August 31 (IPR): MLA, Salghari-Zoom and Advisor, Transport & Skill Development Departments Mr Madan Cintury, formally inaugurated the Breastfeeding Centre at Jorethang today, marking a significant step towards creating a supportive and comfortable environment for nursing mothers.
The centre has been established under the supervision of DC Namchi, Ms Anupa Tamling, with financial assistance from NHPC Limited, Rangit Power Station, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative for the financial year 2024–25.
As informed by CDPO, Jorethang, Mr Prabin Silal, the centre will remain operational from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm every day, including Sundays and Government holidays. Five Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) have presently been deputed to the centre and will work in shifts to provide necessary assistance and support to breastfeeding mothers.
The CDPO further informed that the centre may be upgraded in accordance with the needs and requirements identified during its future operation. The facility has been equipped with essential amenities for mothers and infants, including diapers, powder, lotions, handwash and a dedicated space for changing babies’ diapers.
During the programme, guests were felicitated by the Women, Child, Senior Citizens & Divyangjan Welfare Department in recognition of their contributions towards the establishment of the centre. Tokens of gratitude were also presented to the attending mothers through the Area MLA by the Department.
The inauguration programme was attended by Press Secretary to HCM Mr Yougan Tamang, President, NJNP Mr Samten Moktan Tamang, Vice-President NJNP Ms Manjari Rai, Panchayats NJNP Ms Uma Portel and Mr Sunil Gupta, ADC (HQ)Namchi Mr Subash Ghimirey; SDM (HQ) Namchi Mr Nim Pintso Bhutia, SDM Jorethang Mr B B Rai, MEO Jorethang Mr Dilip Dong, AE UDD Mr Palchen Bhutia, AD (Nutrition) Ms Sophia Lepcha, HR Manager NHPC Mr Pandu Gagrai, Medical Officer NHPC Dr Chandrakant Pandey, along with Anganwadi Workers and staff members of WCSC&DWD and NJNP.
