Pakyong, February 21 (IPR): Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang-Golay graced the first quarter finals of the Inter-Department Cricket Tournament, organised by the Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA), in collaboration with Government of Sikkim, at the Sikkim Cricket Ground, Rangpo, today.
The event also had the presence of MLA cum Advisor for Power Department, Mr Sanjit Kharel; MD SBS, Mr Phurba Wangdi Bhutia; President SICA, Mr Tika Subba; Secretary RDD, Mr Anil Raj Rai; along with representatives from different sports associations of the state, executive members of SICA, stakeholders and general public.
The Inter-Department Cricket Tournament was participated in by 28 government departments and PSUs, which aimed to promote team spirit and sportsmanship among government employees while strengthening the culture of sports in the state.
Amongst the 28 government departments and PSUs, 18 teams were qualified after the league stage for the knockout match, and a total of 8 teams are participating in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The first match of the day was played between Commerce & Industries Department and SBS, wherein Commerce and Industries Department won by 9 runs. The player of the match was accorded to Mr Sonam Tamang from Commerce and Industries Department.
Likewise, the second match was played between the CMO and RDD, and the team RDD won by 5 wickets, and the player of the match was titled to Mr Pranil Pradhan of the RDD Department.
It is to be mentioned that the winning team of the tournament will be awarded a cash prize of ₹10 lakh, while the runners-up will receive a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, sponsored by the State Bank of Sikkim (SBS).
