Pakyong, October 17 (IPR):
A new Health & Wellness Centre (Sub-Centre) under the Health & Family Welfare Department at Majhitar was inaugurated today by Mr. LB Das, Area MLA of West Pendam Constituency and Advisor, Land Revenue & Disaster Management and Information Technology Department.
He was accompanied by Principal Director (Health) Dr Pema Seden, Director (Health) Dr Tempo Gyaltsen and Chief Medical Officer Pakyong District Dr Madanmani Dhakal.
During the inaugural programme, Mr LB Das spoke about the government’s policy to improve the availability of health facilities in rural and semi-urban areas. He said that the Health & Wellness Centre at Majhitar will help reduce the distance people need to travel for basic healthcare needs. He noted that the State Government, through the Health & Family Welfare Department, has been focusing on creating a network of Health & Wellness Centres across all districts to deliver services related to maternal and child health, immunisation, management of common illnesses, and disease prevention.
The Health & Wellness Centre is expected to serve the population of Majhitar and nearby villages, offering primary healthcare, referral services, and health education. It will also assist in maintaining health data and tracking the implementation of state and central health schemes at the local level.
The programme concluded with a visit to the facility, where the officials inspected the infrastructure and interacted with the staff posted at the centre. The inauguration marked the beginning of routine health service delivery from the new centre.
The event was also attended by Zilla Panchayat Central Pendam Mr Bebek Chettri, Vice President Councillor Ms Radha Pradhan, Councillors Mr Pinku Kumar and Ms Sanju Mangar, MOIC Rangpo Dr Nikhil Bhutia. Officers from the Welfare Department, including the Divisional Engineer (DE), Assistant Engineer (AE), and Junior Engineer (JE), were also present.
