Gangtok, 11 September (IPR): The Floriculture Section of the Horticulture Department, Government of Sikkim, conducted the second phase of exhibition cum sale of marigold plants at the department premises today.
The programme was organised jointly by the Horticulture Department and local flower growers to promote urban farming and floriculture.
More than 10,000 hybrid marigold plants were distributed during the programme. Chrysanthemum, tissue-cultured Cymbidium and Cattleya, Lisianthus plants, produced at the Floriculture Centres at Cymbidium Development Centre, Rumtek, Modern Floriculture Centre, Namli and the Government Farm at Assam Lingzey, were also distributed at minimum rates.
The department informed that 7,000 marigold plants were distributed during the first phase held on 5 September 2026. The initiative aims to support farmers and promote the floriculture sector.
The department also informed that seedlings of winter vegetables will be distributed at minimum rates during the upcoming months.
The program was graced by Secretary Horticulture alongside the officers of Horticulture and Agriculture Departments, Government of Sikkim.
