FLW 2026 - SP Mangan Flags Off Financial Literacy Van

Mangan, Feb 10: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Gangtok organised a special programme at the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Mangan, as part of the nationwide "Financial Literacy Week (FLW) 2026."

The event was graced by Shri Lall Bahadur Chhetri ,Superintendent of Police (SP) and Shri Pema Wangchen Namkarpa, Additional DC who formally unveiled financial awareness posters and flagged off a dedicated Financial Literacy Van to spread awareness across the district.

This year’s theme, "KYC-Your first step to safe banking," is being observed from February 9–13 to highlight the importance of Know Your Customer (KYC) norms as the foundation of a secure banking ecosystem.

During the briefing, RBI officials emphasised that while KYC is an essential regulatory requirement, it is also simple to comply with via various safe and convenient modes, including facilities like Central KYC (CKYC). Attendees were requested to make the people aware to not become money mule.

The programme concluded with the flagging off of the Financial Literacy Van, which played financial literacy messages on speakers and carried educational materials for distribution in remote areas of the district. This initiative builds upon last year's successful campaign at the Gram Panchayat level for the saturation of social security schemes. Through these sustained efforts, the RBI aims to reinforce the message that KYC compliance contributes to a secure and trustworthy financial environment for all.

The event in Mangan is part of an outreach strategy by RBI Gangtok, in collaboration with banks, DAC officials, and Gram Panchayats, to cover all six districts of Sikkim.

The week-long campaign is designed to reach diverse segments of society, including students, teachers, Self Help Groups (SHGs), dairy cooperatives, Farmer Produce Organisation and workers in local industries. To ensure the message penetrates to the grassroots level, the campaign is being supplemented by physical and digital hoardings, radio jingles, leaflet distribution, and Nukkad Nataks (skits) by professional local artists.
