Pakyong, January 04 (IPR): The opening match of the First Edition of the Inter-Department Cricket Tournament was played between the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and Power Department at the Sikkim Cricket Ground, Rangpo, today.
The tournament is being organised by the Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA), in collaboration with the Government of Sikkim, featuring participation from 28 government departments and Public Sector
Undertakings (PSUs), which have been divided into two groups.
A total of 42 league matches will be conducted over a span of 17 days, with each team scheduled to play a minimum of three matches during the league stage. The top four teams from each group will qualify for the knockout stage.
In the opening encounter, the Power Department led by the captain, Mr Bhanu Sharma, won the toss and elected to bat first. Displaying a disciplined batting performance, the team posted a total of 103 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Chasing the target, the Chief Minister’s Office led by the captain, Mr Tenzing Chopel put up a spirited effort but could manage 91 runs in 20 overs, resulting in a 12-run victory for the Power Department.
Mr Palzor Bhutia of the Power Department was adjudged the Man of the Match for his notable performance.
The tournament champion will receive a cash prize of ₹10 lakh, while the runners-up will be awarded ₹5 lakh, sponsored by the State Bank of Sikkim (SBS).
