Gyalshing, September 19 (IPR): The first Alumni Meet of Government Senior Secondary School, Hee-Yangthang, under Dentam Block of Gyalshing District, was held today with a series of programmes, bringing together former students, teachers, members of the School Management Committee and present students.
Organised with the theme “Student Life is a Golden Life,” the event provided an opportunity for alumni to reconnect with their alma mater, revisit cherished memories and strengthen the enduring bond between the school and its former students.
The programme began with the school’s morning prayer assembly, followed by the inauguration of the badminton court and archery ground. The main function commenced with a tribute to the departed alumni. Alumni Association President Bishal Limboo delivered the welcome address, followed by a presentation of the school song led by Surendra Tamling.
School Principal Narayan Basnet, in his welcome address, expressed his happiness and pride at welcoming the former students back to their alma mater. Students from the primary section presented cultural dances, while S.B. Mangyung presented a brief history of the school and the Alumni Association, sharing his experiences and perspectives.
Alumni Association President Bishal Limboo also highlighted the objectives of the Alumni Meet and outlined the association’s future programmes and initiatives.
Former student and MLA Sudesh Kumar Subba, in his address, extended his blessings and best wishes to the school and its students. He pledged to dedicate one month’s salary towards the school and assured his support for infrastructure development at the institution. Senior students also presented cultural performances during the programme.
On the occasion, senior alumni Jas Raj Panthak and Smt. Shrimaya Subba were felicitated by the organising committee in recognition of their association with the institution. Former student and Member of Parliament Indrahang Subba, in his address, said that alumni who received their education at Hee-Yangthang School have brought pride and recognition to the State through their achievements. He encouraged the students to pursue excellence in sports as well and assured that he would continue to work responsibly towards addressing the needs of the school.
The programme also featured a solo musical performance by Jina Baraily. In his presidential address, Hari Prasad Pradhan congratulated the organisers for successfully conducting the school’s first Alumni Meet. He stated that the gathering had created an important platform to further strengthen the relationship among the school, its alumni, teachers and present students, while also creating an environment to institutionalise the contribution of former students towards the academic and overall development of the school.
A notable feature of the event was the contribution of books by former students who had studied at the institution from its early years to the present. The alumni collected and dedicated the books to the school, further strengthening their commitment to supporting their alma mater.
The programme was compered by Rebika Chhetri, a former student of the 2009–10 Class XII Science batch, and Mahesh Bista, a former student of the 2011–12 batch.
The first Alumni Meet concluded with a renewed spirit of fellowship, remembrance and commitment towards the continued development of Government Senior Secondary School, Hee-Yangthang.
