Educational Excursion for Sikkim Happiness Home Students Flagged off


Gangtok, September 20 (IPR): Additional Chief Secretary for Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Mr CS Rao flagged off an excursion for the students of Sikkim Happiness Home, Syari under Taraloka Foundation, from Paryatan Bhawan, Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, this morning.

As part of 50 year of Statehood and Sewa Pakhwada, the excursion is organised by the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure & Eco-Tourism (IHCAE), Chemchey, and supported by the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM).

Mr Rao, briefing about the objective of the programme stated that the two-day tour would cover Namchi District, which include visits to pilgrimage and cultural sites such as Char Dham, Sai Mandir, Buddha Park, and Temi Tea Garden. He added that the students would also visit Chemchey to observe and learn about adventure tourism activities.

A total of 22 students, led by the Director cum Founder of Sikkim Happiness Home, Mr Gyatso Bhutia, are taking part in the tour. The group will halt overnight at Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure & Eco-Tourism (IHCAE) Chemchey, and return by tomorrow evening.

Also present were officers from Tourism and Civil Aviation Department including Principal Chief Engineer cum Secretary Mr Neeraj Pradhan, Secretary Ms Hondala Gyaltsen, Additional Secretary cum Administrator of Institute of Hotel Management Gangtok Dr Prerna Chamling, Chief Engineer Ms Shanti Tamang, Additional Director Mr Tenzing Gelay, Joint Director cum Principal of Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure & Eco-Tourism (IHCAE) Chemchey Mr Kazi Sherpa, and senior officers and staff of the department.
