Mangan, May 21 (IPR): The annual monsoon preparedness meeting for Mangan district was conducted at the DAC conference room, today.
Chaired by District Collector Mr Anant Jain, the meeting was attended by SP Mangan Mr LB Chettri, ADC (Development) Mangan, Dr Sonam Rinchen Lepcha, SDM Mangan Mr Sandeep Kumar, Joint Director DDMA Mr Karma Dorjee Bhutia, along with heads of offices from various departments stationed in and around the DAC Complex. Officers from GREF and other concerned departments and agencies joined the meeting virtually.
The meeting discussed in detail the roles and responsibilities of departments, preparedness, issues to combat the unforeseen disaster that may occur in the upcoming monsoon in the district and to prepare for better coordination among line departments.
DC Mangan Mr Anant Jain recalled some of the disaster situations in the recent past and the coordinated effort thereof. He commended the effort of all concerned departments and agencies involved in the rescue and relief operations.
Interacting with the Heads of offices of the district, he reviewed the role of each department and agency during disaster situations. Officers from various departments updated their status of preparedness and also shared the challenges they have been facing, to which the DC assured support.
Officers from the Roads and Bridges Department briefed the house on the status of ongoing road construction projects, issues that needed urgent attention, and the timeline for completion.
Officer Commanding 86 RCC and 107 RCC, GREF, briefed about the status of road connectivity at Taram Chu and Mangan-Sangkalang route respectively. The District Collector urged the agency to devise means to ensure that the vulnerable points along the two stretches are addressed immediately.
In his closing remarks, the District Collector stated that Mangan district normally experiences prolonged monsoon and is susceptible to landslides and natural disasters. He called for heightened vigilance and readiness from each department to deal with any exigency.
