DHEW Soreng Organises Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Programme at Soreng


Soreng, December 2 (IPR): The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Soreng, under the Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, organised a programme today at Rurban Complex Soreng, as part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative. The programme centred on the theme “Session On Men’s Involvement In Women’s Health”.

The District Collector Soreng Mr Dhiraj Subedi attended the programme as the chief guest.

The programme began with a welcome address delivered by CDPO cum DNO Soreng, Mrs Gauri Tamang, who highlighted various challenges faced by women due to mental health issues, anxiety and stress. She then emphasised the need for positive understanding responses from men in women’s life.

In his address, DC Soreng spoke on the theme, underscoring the crucial role of the entire family in supporting women’s well being. He then emphasised that addressing a women’s mental health concerns is a shared family responsibility. He also explained how a family is collectively impacted when any member experiences mental health issues and encouraged men to be more supportive and aware in such situations.

Additionally, he highlighted the necessary interventions between the District Administration and the Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department, Soreng.

The programme included a special session on “Men’s Streaming on Women’s Health”, presented by Gynaecologist Dr. Youmee Kiroung Sherpa. She stressed the importance of men’s active involvement in women’s health and explained how responsible support from men can positively impact women physically, emotionally and mentally. Further, her session also covered preventive measures, family planning, maternal health, adolescent health, emotional well being and gender based violence.

The programme also featured colourful cultural performances, including dances, songs and indoor games. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony honouring the winners.

Also present at the event were Ms Sabita Limboo Gender Specialist (Dentam), Social Welfare Inspectors, officials and staff under WCSC&DWD stationed in the district.
