Namchi, 8 January (IPR): In view of the forthcoming Maghey Sankranti Mela 2026, DC Namchi Ms Anupa Tamling, led a joint inspection today at Jorethang to assess disaster preparedness and emergency response arrangements. The inspection was carried out in coordination with officers from various line departments associated with emergency response services.
The DC was accompanied by ADC HQ (Namchi) Mr Subash Ghimirey, Director (SIRD & PR) Mr Bishal Mukhia, Joint Director (LR & DMD) Mr Karma C Bhutia, SDM (Jorethang) Mr Yogen Syangden, ASP/SDPO (Jorethang) Mr Kesang D Bhutia, DPO (Namchi) Mr Suraj Rai, SHO (Jorethang) Mr Chandra Krishna Subba, and Fire Inspector (Jorethang) Mr Joel Rai.
During the inspection, the DC assessed the preparedness and operational readiness of emergency response services at various sites earmarked for the Maghey Sankranti Mela, with a focus on mitigating risks and ensuring prompt response in the event of any untoward incidents or disasters during the celebrations.
She advised vendors to ensure adequate openings for proper ventilation, smooth air circulation, and clearly demarcated exit points. She further directed that fire extinguishers be kept readily available within a distance of 15 to 30 metres.
She also instructed the concerned officials and members of the organising committee to conduct a mock drill on disaster preparedness on 12 January 2026.
The inspection covered key locations, including the newly constructed and soon-to-be inaugurated SDM Office, Jorethang, the Khelo India Complex, commercial streets designated for thrift, hawkers, and clothing and accessories traders, as well as sites allocated for the Departmental Expo, Teen Street, SARAS Trade Fair, Meena Bazaar, Traditional Stalls, Bangey Bazaar, and Aama ko Suvidha Ghar—a dedicated facility catering to the needs of women.
