Mangan, July 8 (IPR): As part of the observance of Sikkim Paryavaran Parva 2026, themed “Leave a Green Legacy,” the Forest and Environment Department, Mangan District, organised a Climate March/Green Walk today from the DAC Complex to Mangan Public Ground.
The initiative aimed to create environmental consciousness, encourage eco-friendly lifestyles and involve all stakeholders in the conservation of the natural environment. The programme also sought to promote environmental awareness and reduce vehicular carbon footprints by encouraging sustainable practices.
The Climate March/Green Walk was led by District Collector Mr Anant Jain, alongside Divisional Forest Officer (Territorial), Mangan, Mr Manzil Kharel, along with Range Officer (HQ), Mangan (T) Mr Supendra Subba, Range Officer Mangan (T) Mr Pema Rinzing Lachungpa, BOs and officials and staff of the Forest and Environment Department.
Earlier, DFO (T) Mr Manzil Kharel briefed the participants on the significance of the programme. He stated that the primary objective of the Climate March/Green Walk was to encourage environmentally responsible lifestyles while fostering active public participation in conserving the state’s rich natural heritage. He urged everyone to carry forward the message of environmental protection and sustainable living within their communities.
Simultaneously, the Dzongu Territorial Range organised a Climate March/Green Walk from Sangkalang Check Post to Lingdong, with enthusiastic participation from teachers and students of Sonam Choda Secondary School.
Following the successful completion of the Climate March/Green Walk, officials and staff of the Dzongu Territorial Range conducted a cleanliness drive and plantation programme around the Tungkyong Biodiversity Heritage Site, reinforcing the commitment towards environmental conservation.
Similar Climate Marches/Green Walks were organised across all other forest subdivisions under Mangan district, making the observance a truly district-wide initiative and reflecting the collective commitment towards building a greener and more sustainable future.
