Gangtok, November 21 (IPR): Chief Secretary, Government of Sikkim, Shri R. Telang, chaired a review meeting today at Teesta Lounge, Tashiling Secretariat, to assess the connectivity situation in Mangan (North) District, with a special focus on the much-awaited restoration of the Chungthang–Lachen axis.
The meeting was attended by the General Officer Commanding, 27 Mountain Division; the Chief Engineer, BRO; the Secretary, Roads & Bridges Department; senior officers from the Land Revenue Department; and the District Collectors of Gangtok and Mangan.
The attendees briefed the Chief Secretary on the progress of road restoration, bridge repairs, and landslide clearance along the Dikchu–Mangan and Chungthang–Lachen stretches, as well as on various other BRO works currently underway across the State.
It was informed that construction of the bridge over the Taram Chu has entered its final stage and is expected to be completed by December 2025. Once completed, it will allow the full reopening of the Chungthang–Lachen axis.
During the meeting, the GOC, 27 Mountain Division, expressed appreciation for the remarkable support and cooperation extended by the Pipon and his team, the district administration, and the local community in all endeavours of the Indian Army.
In conclusion, the Chief Secretary urged all departments and implementing agencies to work in unison, remove bottlenecks without delay, and ensure that the route is reopened by December 2025.
