Gangtok, September 25 (IPR): The Chief Minister, Mr Prem Singh Tamang flagged off the NaMo Marathon, organised by the Sports and Youth Affairs Department (SYAD) as a part of the Sewa Pakhwada observance at Ridge Park, here today.
The marathon seeks to promote physical fitness, strengthen community participation, and inspire citizens to adopt an active lifestyle, in alignment with the vision of the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi of a Fit India, Healthy India.
In her address, Secretary SYAD, Ms Yangchen Doma Tamang outlined the aim and objectives of the marathon, emphasising that it was organised to commemorate the Prime Minister’s birth anniversary and to promote his vision of “Fit India, Healthy India.” She further informed that out of 711 registered participants, 501 took part in the event, including participants from other states.
The NaMo Marathon featured the following categories and cash award:
21 Km NaMo Marathon (Open – Men & Women):
1st Prize: ₹1,00,000 each
2nd Prize: ₹75,000 each
3rd Prize: ₹50,000 each
5 Consolation Prizes: ₹10,000 each
21 Km NaMo Marathon (Masters/Veterans – Above 45 years):
1st Prize: ₹30,000 each
2nd Prize: ₹20,000 each
3rd Prize: ₹10,000 each
5 Consolation Prizes: ₹5,000 each
3 Km NaMo Marathon (School Children – Age 10–12 years):
1st Prize: ₹5,000 each
2nd Prize: ₹3,000 each
3rd Prize: ₹2,000 each
3 Consolation Prizes: ₹1,000 each
3 Km NaMo Marathon (School Children – Age 13–16 years):
1st Prize: ₹30,000 each
2nd Prize: ₹20,000 each
3rd Prize: ₹10,000 each
3 Consolation Prizes: ₹4,000 each

Girls: 1st – Apsara Chettri, 2nd – Ruman Yadav, 3rd – Kumari Sneha
21 Km NaMo Marathon (Open – Men & Women):
Men: 1st – Prince Raj Yadav, 2nd – Ravi, 3rd – Durga Bdr Buddha
Women: 1st – Muni, 2nd – Tamchi Singh, 3rd – Anjali Subba
21 Km NaMo Marathon (Masters/Veterans – Above 45 years):
Men: 1st – Pravesh Tamang, 2nd – Subarna Subba, 3rd – Seden Rai
Women: 1st – Saraswati Rai, 2nd – Anuja Tamang, 3rd – Pinky Lepcha
The event had the presence of Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Education, and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Departments Mr Raju Basnet, MLA cum Advisor Urban Developmen and Food & Civil Supplies Departments Mr Delay Namgyal Barfungpa, MLA Mr Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, MLA Mr Aditya Golay, Advisor SYAD Mr Bikram Pradhan, Chairperson SSDB Mr Rinzing Wangyal Chopel Bhutia, Chairperson Sports Youth Development Board Mr Basant Yonzon, Chairman Labour Welfare Board Mr Prem Raj Gurung, and other dignitaries.
