Awareness Programme on PM Vishwakarma Scheme Held at Pakyong District


Pakyong, September 18 (IPR): A one-day awareness programme on the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Scheme was organised today at the Rurban Community Complex, RDD, Pakyong. The programme was conducted by the MSME–Development & Facilitation Office, Gangtok, Ministry of MSME, Government of India, in association with the Office of the ADC (Dev), Pakyong.

The Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Scheme is a central sector initiative launched by the Government of India to extend comprehensive support to traditional artisans and craftspeople. The scheme provides collateral-free credit, skill upgradation, modern tools, digital transaction incentives, and market linkage opportunities.

ADC (Dev) Pakyong, Mr Robin Pd Sewa, attended the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he emphasised the State Government’s initiative, “One Family, One Entrepreneur”, which seeks to nurture entrepreneurial spirit in every household, thereby fostering self-reliance and economic growth. He encouraged participants to make full use of various schemes available for individual benefit and to understand the systematic processes required for their effective implementation.

He urged participants to gain knowledge not only for local business development but also to explore international markets, stressing that such programmes contribute significantly to holistic growth.

Further, he highlighted the Chief Minister’s initiative, “Connect to Earth”, which promotes sustainable development practices across the State. He also encouraged the younger generation, reminding them that they are the nation’s strength and future. He urged them to channel their energy towards entrepreneurship, innovation, and self-reliance, thereby contributing meaningfully to nation-building.

Panchayat President, Namcheybong, Ms Sakila Rai, also addressed the gathering and underlined that such awareness programmes are essential for informing the public about the opportunities provided under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme.

Assistant Director, MSME-DFO Gangtok, Mr Nirmal Chowdhury, provided updates on the implementation of the scheme. He informed that in the first phase, more than 30 lakh registrations were recorded nationwide, under which artisans benefitted through the distribution of modern toolkits, issuance of unique artisan identity cards, and provision of collateral-free concessional loans at 5% interest. He added that the second phase focuses on marketing support to help artisans showcase and sell their products effectively in competitive markets, thereby ensuring sustainable income and growth.

He also informed that artisan fairs are being organised across India to provide craftspeople with platforms to display and sell their products. The Government of India has extended support by covering stall charges for participants, with reimbursement provided after the conclusion of each fair.

Professor at Sikkim University, Dr P K Das, conducted a technical session on marketing and selling strategies. He explained various aspects of online selling, with a focus on government-supported digital commerce initiatives and organic marketing. He elaborated on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) as a platform ensuring equal opportunities for sellers, including MSMEs and local businesses.

He also explained the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), its registration process, and its role as a one-stop transparent procurement platform for government agencies, startups, artisans and women entrepreneurs.

Additionally, he demonstrated the process of product listing on Flipkart and discussed branding, labelling, packaging and selling strategies.

LDM Pakyong, Mr Pradeep Ahmed, briefed participants on the role of banks under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme. He outlined the required documentation for availing loans, explained the loan application process and highlighted the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) as an essential component for business planning.

Marketing Executive, Mr Sameer Pradhan, delivered a presentation on domestic and international business through India Post. He highlighted the features of Speed Post, including tariffs, discount structures and transit times, along with parcel services, value-added services and the Road Transport Network (RTN).

He explained the benefits of exporting through India Post and introduced Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras, which provide cost-effective solutions for small traders and artisans, supporting exports and strengthening local businesses in line with the vision of making India Atmanirbhar.

The programme was also attended by GM, DIC Pakyong District, Mr Jigmee W Bhutia, BDO Pakyong, Mr Sangay Tamang, along with officials from MSME-DFO Gangtok.
