Pakyong, February 09 (IPR): An Awareness-cum-Registration Drive under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PMSYM) scheme was conducted at Namcheypong GPK, Pakyong, with the objective of sensitising unorganised sector workers about the benefits and importance of the Government of India’s flagship pension scheme.
The programme was attended by Panchayat President, Namcheypong GPK, Ms Shakila Rai, Deputy Commissioner, Labour Department, Mr Tashi Pintso Mapen, Assistant Director (PRI), Mr Suresh Rai along Labour Inspectors, and CSC Coordinator, along with local residents and beneficiaries from the unorganized sector.
During the programme, Deputy Labour Commissioner elaborated on the key features of the PMSYM scheme, highlighting the eligibility criteria, age-based contribution structure, and the provision of an assured minimum monthly pension of Rs. 3,000/- after attaining the age of 60 years. He emphasised that the scheme aims to provide social security and financial stability to unorganised workers in their old age.
The importance of timely enrollment under PMSYM was stressed, particularly for individual workers, shop workers, construction workers, and other daily wage earners, who often lack access to formal pension benefits. Participants were encouraged to take advantage of the scheme to secure a dignified and financially independent life after retirement.
The attendees were also briefed on the monthly contribution requirements based on age, with special emphasis on the equal matching contribution by the Government of India, making the scheme affordable and beneficial for workers from economically weaker sections.
On-the-spot registration assistance was provided through the Common Service Centre (CSC) to facilitate hassle-free enrollment. The programme concluded with an interactive session, during which participants raised queries and were guided on enrollment procedures and documentation requirements.
